Aidan was a four year varsity and first team all-conference player from Arrowhead High School. He also played with True Lacrosse and Amplify and played his last year with Pirate and he was a member of Badger Prime playing in their inaugural season. Aidan has also player 4 years of box lacrosse to go along with his field lacrosse experience. We know Aidan really well here at Pirate since his 2 brothers, mother and father all work at Pirate. We sat down with Aidan a couple of weeks ago.
Pirate Lacrosse: How did you choose your school?
AK: I visited Howard twice, and was so impressed by the size, location, athletic facilities, and most of all the price of it. The constant spirit of being a “dragon” and a student at HCC was so lively around the campus that I couldn’t not like the thought of me going there.
As for the school it is a community college so it’s two years, but after talking to the coach I understood that going for two years and getting an associates degree for so cheap opens up so many opportunities after Howard, and gives me even more creativity and freedom than I’ll ever have.
Pirate Lacrosse: What was your recruiting process?
AK: From camps, to showcases, to travel teams, to college practices and visits, I’ve done as much as I could to get somewhere for lacrosse. In my freshman year, I starting putting together a highlight films and produced 1 or 2 each year as I got more film. At the same time, I have been talking to coaches whether it be them introducing themselves to me or me starting a conversation with them and sending them a link to my highlights.
For Howard in specific I really didn’t even know I was for sure going until the last minute. In my junior year I focused on focused on three different D2 programs. I had many phone and text conversations with each on of them and had a visit with one of them, a practice with another, and a canceled visit (due to the pandemic) from the third. I received a verbal offers from two of these schools, but I was very undecided in where to go and didn’t know what felt right. Going to Howard gives me the ability to play lacrosse at a high level and make a final college decision later. Howard offers me so many opportunities and possibilities at such a low cost that it was almost to me so weird that I never just went for them right away.
Pirate Lacrosse: Give Advice to someone who is trying to get recruited knowing what you know now?
AK: Before committing and staying dedicated to a program, or anything in lacrosse for that matter make sure the feeling and vibe is the way you want it to be. At the end of the day everything is up to you and no one is going to do it for you, disappointing some people to satisfy your own needs is the most important thing to understand.
