10 Important Tips on How to Create a Highlight Recruiting Film

Finally! The 2021 Lacrosse season is here! To make sure you are ready, Pirate Lacrosse has put together an easy guideline to help you create your Highlight Video. Start Now and make sure you get film for all of your games.

A highlight video is particularly important if you want to play at the next level and have college coaches see you.  Your film will allow coaches to see your game, see your progression and get to know who you are as a player.  All of our Pirate coaches have been through the recruiting process and want to help you be a better player.

Below are Prime Recommendations for Making Your Highlight Recruiting Film:

  1. Keep it Simple. Do not us any special effects or inappropriate music.  You want the coach to focus on you and not the special effects.  (High quality video is best)
  2. Have clips from multiple games against better competition.  Show clips of you playing against better teams.  Try not to put clips against bad competition
  3. Try to put a video for all seasons you play.  Spring season – year (high school season), Summer – year (club team), fall – year(club team) & box, if you play box in winter
  4. Video should be 3-4 minutes max. college coaches get a lot of film, so keep is short and to the point
  5. First 30 seconds should be your best clips. (make sure you show the entire play, not just you scoring).  Remember, Coaches get a lot of film, so they tend to watch the first 30 seconds of the film they receive
  6. Before each clip either slow down or highlight yourself so the coach knows the play is coming up
  7. Make sure to add a contact slide in the beginning and the end of your film.  On the slide have a clear game picture ad these additional items: your name, number, GPA, grad year, Phone/email address, coach/s names and email address any awards you have received)
  8. If you want to have music in the background, make sure it is a clean version, meaning no foul language or inappropriate things.  Music is not critical to have.  Most coaches put highlights on mute when watching.  **Make sure you understand the copywrite permissions/terms on the song you want to use**
  9. Feature a Broad Range of your skills. Show the complete picture of your game (quality clips over quantity)
  10. Ask your coaches to review before sending to any college coaches

What To Put in Your Video

Attack – Scoring, feeds, great rides, see you drawing slides

Defense – take aways, clears, GB’s, slides, Physical D

Midfield – Goals, Assists, transition, defense, feeds, speed, see you drawing slides

Goalie – Saves (in close/outside) clears, communication, chasing a missed shot

IMPORTANT! Do NotHave bad language in your music – Make sure it is a clean version.  Do not do crazy special effects on any of the film. Both of these are distracting to coaches.
