Getting Recruited With Pirate Lacrosse

For players who want to play at the next level, Pirate Lacrosse is a great path in fulfilling your dreams. Not only are you coached by some of the best coaches in the state of Wisconsin, but we provide assistance in the recruiting process.

Here are some highlights of our recruiting service.

Get Both Local and National Exposure

Pirate Lacrosse Tournament in Illinois
Badger Prime Tournament in Rhode Island

Pirate Lacrosse is grounded in playing local tournaments within the midwest area. As a result you will see a lot of midwest and local collegiate coaches. A lot of players want to stay around home when they go off to college and there are a number of excellent midwest colleges with high level lacrosse.

Additionally, we have our partnership with Badger Prime. This partnership allows us to bring a number of players to get exposure all over the country. Badger Prime has already made a huge impact in our first season last fall and plans to continue turning heads on the east coast this summer in Rhode Island and New York.

With all of this in mind, our program casts the widest net in terms of exposure. We play both local tournaments to get local exposure and keep costs down and national tournaments where you can show your skills on the big stage.

Our Coaches Have Been Through the Process

Pirate Coach Austin Kreinz – UPenn Captain

All of our coaches in Pirate lacrosse know the recruiting process very well. Most of them have been through it themselves.

Our staff consists of players who have come back from college to help grow the love of the game, and parents of players who went through the college process. With this we have a player and parent side of recruiting which we feel serves our families the best for recruiting help and information.

Not only that but our staff has played NCAA Division I, II, and III, NJCAA and Ivy. As well, we have coaches who played in the Midwest, South, West Coast, and East Coast. We have the widest spectrum of knowledge across the nation as our coaches are familiar with most regions and divisions of college lacrosse.

Real Stories From Local Players

Brady Hunn – Pirate 2021

On our Pirate website we created a page called My Story. This page is dedicated to showcasing Pirate players who went through the recruiting process, and letting them tell their stories and experiences about it. These are real people telling real stories, we don’t want to just throw their name on the wall like a big fish you just caught. These are stories you can learn from.

We encourage everyone to go out and look at these, as they can give you advice from people within our own community about what it’s like being recruited from Wisconsin.

Other Resources

Pirate Lacrosse has other resources on our website to help you get recruited as well.

We have a page that shows all of the individual recruiting camps in the country, and we are constantly putting out more information for people to get involved.

Getting Started

As a Pirate player knowing what resources you have available here is how you should get started

  • Read our My Story pages
    • This will give you a piece of local players who went through the process. Look at their experiences and advice.
  • Talk to our coaches
    • We will do everything we can to help you along the process
  • Create a Highlight Tape
    • This is very IMPORTANT
  • Create a list of schools and plan on realistically where you want to go
    • All of the points above contribute to this point, at a certain point knowing where you realistically fit in financially, academically and athletically at a school is very important
  • Contact the schools and coaches you want to be at
    • Let them know what events you are playing at
    • Send them your highlight tape
  • Keep in communication with the coaches
    • This is also very important
  • Visit where you are interested to get a feeling for the campus
    • You may like a school on paper, but there is nothing like seeing the campus and really getting a feel for the school in person.

Final Thoughts

We here at Pirate know that going to play in college is very important to some families. Because of that we want to give those players and families the tools and knowledge to find the best fit for them. So here are some final words from us on the matter.

Recruiting is all about selling yourself and making sure you are always being put in front of the schools you want to go to. No one else can do your recruiting for you, you always have to take the initiative. Only you know where you really want to play and attend. At the same time players must be realistic about their school choices in a financial, academic, and athletic/lacrosse sense. That is why it is imperative to know where you fit and match up the best to create a plan early on. Always strive to be better, your school fit will change as you grow but understand where you stack up and plan ahead.

Lastly, Lacrosse is an extension of school. Where do you want to go to school? What kind of people do you want to be around? The country is big and has a lot of different places and people, so the most important thing in all of this is what school you go to. Are you going to get a good education, is this a school that has your major, will I come out of school in debt? These are things that need to be brought up when deciding schools as well. The biggest question you have to ask yourself when choosing a school is this, “If I were to be injured and never play Lacrosse ever again would I still be at this school.”

Here at Pirate Lacrosse we want to give everyone the knowledge on how to go through the recruiting process. We want to ensure that every player who goes through it finds the best fit for them.
