Wall Ball Routines to Make You A Better Player

Find a wall or rebounder

Finding a real wall somewhere can be a challenge but if you are fortunately to be able to find one that is great. The importance of wall ball cannot be overstated. The next best thing is a rebounder and many of you probably have access to one of those. Wall ball develops quick hands and greatly improves your stick skills and is the most beneficial practice routine you can do to improve your game. Below is a set of wall ball routines that our coaches have developed for different levels of play.

These routines are difficult. Don’t get discouraged. Push yourself and be persistent. You will be a better player for it.

When practicing on the wall, always wear your helmet and gloves. This is best not only for protection but this is also what you wear when you play.

Youth Players

This is a challenging routine that is timed. It is important that wall be done with a timing element since learning to move the ball quickly is an important skill to learn.

251 hand throw right – catch 1 hand right
251 hand throw left – catch 1 hand left
50Throw right – switch hands in air -catch left. Throw Left – switch hands in air – catch right. Each set is considered 2 reps.
50Throw right – catch right. Switch hands. Throw left – catch left. Each set is considered 2 reps.
25Throw Canadian right – catch Canadian right
25Throw Canadian left – catch Canadian left
25 Throw left – Catch left
25 1 hand throw left – catch 1 hand left

U12 Time: 9 minutes. Drops are allowed as long as you complete in 9 minutes. Clock does not stop getting ball.

U14 Time: 8 minutes. Drops are allowed as long as you complete in 8 minutes. Clock does not stop getting ball.

High School

The difference in the high school routine is that any drop means that you go back to zero on that portion of the routine. For example, if you have completed the first 3 items without a drop and then drop the 20th 1 hand throw left – 1 hand catch left, you need to start over from zero on 1 hand throw left – 1 hand catch left until you do it without a drop.

Time: 7 minutes. No drops allowed. Start the step back to zero with any drops. Clock does not stop getting ball.

AA High School

This is the same routine as the high school routine with exception to the last 2 items. Same rules apply that no drops are allowed. This routine is something you might see in college.
